The Conservation Council of South Australia, South Australias peak environmental body with over 50 member groups, collectively representing tens of thousands of South Australians, is closing the doors on the well-known and historic Conservation Centre at 120 Wakefield Street in the City, and moving to new premises in Franklin Street.
This is the end of an era for the Conservation Council, said CEO Ms Julie Pettett, however, it marks the beginning of a new period for CCSA in delivering positive environmental outcomes for South Australia.
The Conservation Council has been based in the Wakefield Street premises since the early 1970s, however we have outgrown the building, which was going to require an enormous amount of investment to make it sustainable and viable, said Ms Pettett.CCSA and co-owners, the Nature Conservation Society, were made an offer we couldnt refuse, and our members voted for the sale of the building early this year she added.
The Conservation Council hope to build or retrofit a green, sustainable building in the future, but in the interim are moving to Level 1, 157 Franklin Street, Adelaide along with co-tenants the Australian Conservation Foundation and Friends of the Earth.
The Wakefield Street building is earmarked for demolition to make way for a new office development.
CCSA Members and the South Australian community hold fond memories of the Conservation Centre, said Ms Pettett, and they can rest assured that our future Centre will be even more relevant, accessible and sustainable.
CCSAs new headquarters will re-open in Franklin Street from January 7th
