Australians demand climate action as Kyoto dawn leaves us in the dark
Today the Kyoto Protocol comes into effect in 128 countries world wide. But not in Australia. Despite overwhelming scientific proof that human activity is changing the worlds climate significantly, the Australian Federal Government refuses to ratify this historic treaty.
The Kyoto Protocols historic entry into force today will forever change how the world views greenhouse pollution said Julie-Anne Richards Coordinator of the Climate Action Network Australia. For the first time; a legally-binding upper limit has been placed on greenhouse gas emissions in developed countries; and greenhouse pollution has a direct economic cost, concluded Ms Richards.

With the Howard Government refusing to take responsibility, we need leadership from State and Territory governments to tackle climate change. If our Premiers and Chief Ministers commit to mandatory targets for renewable energy(of at least 20% new clean energy by 2020), we can turn the challenge of climate change into an exciting opportunity for jobs, local economies and the environment. said Mark Wakeham Greenpeace Clean Energy Campaigner.

The photo opportunity with green energy (windfarms) and climate change weather is 12.30pm, Steps of Parliament House.
