Olympic Dam Expansion Draft EIS

CCSA's submission to the Olympic Dam Expansion Draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) IS has now been submitted, along with 3949 others.

CCSA submission can be downloaded here (381.87 KB) and covers numerous issues including the Indenture Act that governs the legal conditions BHP-B operate under, energy, greenhouse gas emissions, the mines impact on climate change, native vegetation and biodiversity, water and the impacts on groundwater, coast and marine impacts and the issues around air and water pollution, nuclear power and uranium mining.

The submissions have all been forwarded to the State and federal governments and will be assessed by the Commonwealth Department for Environment and Heritage and SA & NT government agencies. in SA this will be Planning SA who will prepare assessment reports for the Minister (Paul Holloway).

The Minister(s) can each approve the project (with or without any conditions) or reject it.

There is no formal option of appeal against the State Ministers decision, and only judicial review (regarding the process used) is possible with regard to the Commonwealth Ministers decision. If granted approved, the decision to proceed in whole or in part would then rest with BHP-B themselves.
