Welcome

The huge variety of fish, sharks and rays that inhabit the waters off South Australia's coast, many of which are found nowhere else in the world, face an almost equal variety of threats. These threats have the very real potential of causing the extinction of those species most at risk. If this is to be avoided, actions will be needed at a variety of levels.ray.gifLocal government, Natural Resources Management (NRM) Boards, community groups and individuals have many opportunities to undertake action to help protect SAs fish species of conservation concern. There are also a number of actions that can be taken at other levels, including legislative protection at the Commonwealth and/or State level.

The purpose of the Fish, Sharks and Rays project is to help those involved in the conservation and management of our marine and coastal environments, and those members of the community concerned about them, to better understand those threats and the actions needed to address them.
