Advice on rescuing and caring for sick, injured and orphaned wild birds.

Key Achievements and Activities for 2008/09:

Active BCCS members receive phone calls and emails seeking assistance with wild birds found by the public and asking for advice on matters to do with wild birds and their welfare.

Referrals come from:

• BCCS website
• animal welfare groups, vets, national parks, councils etc
• White Pages phone book
• community publications

BCCS supplies:

• 'Fact Sheets' for care of various species of birds available from the BCCS secretary or downloadable from the BCCS website
• BCCS publication 'Handbook Caring for Rescued Birds' which may be ordered through the BCCS Secretary.

BCCS endorses actions such as the current National Common Position Statement to the Federal Government, of conservation, animal welfare and political groups calling for a ban on the recreational shooting of native waterbirds.
