Key role of Member Group:

  • serve the interests of the walking community in South Australia
  • encourage walkers to maintain and increase their role in conservation of the environment
  • support track management and legislation to protect the walking track network

Outline key campaign or advocacy activities currently being undertaken and/or key achievements for 2008-9:

    Walking SA encourages walkers to 'walk responsibly' by:

  • walking with a club (or in a group)
  • keeping to trails
  • checking fire ban information
  • carrying out their litter

   Walking SA keeps walkers informed through:

  • quarterly newsletter
  • website
  • displays at various 'outdoor shows' eg caravan and camping exhibition
  • hosting annual 'Opening of Walking Season' event

   Walking SA and its member clubs take part in conservation activities such as:

  • eradication of pest plants eg Mexican wheel cactus in outback areas
  • development and maintenance of walking trails across South Australia
  • undertaking mapping and surveys eg in national parks for DEH and others
  • ongoing consultation with DEH and others on trail usage eg in national parks
