MEDIA RELEASE 3 March 2010
Minister for Environment and Conservation, the Honourable Jay Weatherill and the Conservation Council SA (Conservation SA) today launched the Green Hubs project at the Woodville Bowling Club.
"It is really exciting to be rolling out a full Green Hubs programme after a successful pilot that was supported by the State Government. The fact that Minister Weatherill is here to launch our programme is a real indication that supporting communities to engage in sustainability is important.
Green Hubs is a sustainability programme that sees Conservation SA work with local communities to make their facilities and operations more environmentally, economically and socially sustainable." Said Julie Pettett, Conservation SA CEO.
"South Australians care for their environment and many want to make changes to their lives to help make a difference."
By showing what can be done in local sports clubs, Green Hubs will help people to save water and energy and reduce waste in their own homes." Mr Weatherill said.
"We joined the Green Hubs programme because we saw it as an opportunity to reduce our impact on the environment while having a positive effect on the operating costs to the club and therefore our members.
We recognised that by being better for the environment it's better for our club." Said Mike Haywood, Woodville Bowls Club President.
