Climate movement unites in a call for levy on carbon pollution

Conservation SA united with a diverse range of groups, calling on the Rudd government to show political leadership by instating an immediate levy on carbon within this term of government.

In an open letter from the climate movement, the groups called on the Rudd government to implement in the short-term a two year levy, similar to that proposed by Professor Garnaut.

This temporary levy is not a substitute for a long-term limit and price on carbon, but it will make a start in cleaning up Australia's economy. The benefits of this temporary action will be substantial and include creating numerous jobs and an even more competitive Australian economy.
