Improving NRM in South Australia

improving-nrm-in-sa On 1 July 2010 the new Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)  was established bringing together the former Department of Environment and Heritage and most of the natural resources management (NRM) activities previously supported by the former Department of Water, Land and Biodiversity Conservation, including support for the eight NRM Boards and Pastoral Board.

The new integrated delivery model combines environment and NRM in the one agency with a single workforce that will support the NRM Boards, community, and other agencies to manage nature resources. The aim is for environment and natural resource services to be fully integrated by July 2012.

The new integrated service aims to use landscape scale approaches to manage natural resources across public and private land. This should see an increased emphasis on collaborating, partnering and engaging local communities.

The Regional Integration Plan sets out a clear path towards full integration of DENR and NRM boards to achieve this improved delivery model.

Part of this integration includes the appointment of new Regional Managers for each NRM area. The new Managers are:
Adelaide & Mt Lofty Ranges - Kym Good
Kangaroo Island - Bill Haddrill
Eyre Peninsula - Annie Lane
Northern and Yorke - Lynn Walden
South Australia's Arid Lands - Geoff Axford
South Australia's Murray Darling Basin - Hugo Hopton
South East - Tim Collins
Alinytjara Wiluara - Trevor Naismith
