Your gift to the future: Making a bequest to the Conservation Council of SA

You care about South Australia's environment and you want to be sure that future generations can experience the things you have.

As a peak body representing over 50 conservation organisations, the Conservation Council of SA has been working to protect South Australia's environment for nearly 40 years.

What incredible changes we have seen in that time. Tragically, climate change is well and truly underway. Thankfully, it has at least assumed its rightful place at the forefront of the international agenda. South Australia has not been spared and has experienced dramatic changes to its environment, particularly temperature increases and water shortages.

The Conservation Council has seen many remarkable successes. SA now has the best climate change and renewable energy policies in Australia, with a commitment to deep cuts in emissions in the next 50 years. Our state has also emerged as a leader when it comes to innovations such as deposits on bottles and the banning of plastic supermarket bags. These are all important steps towards a safe future for our environment.

But what will our future hold? What legacy will our children and grandchildren inherit? The environmental issues we face today and in the future are increasingly urgent and complex. The work of the Conservation Council has never been more critical.

The Conservation Council is reliant on the support of people like you.  Without committed individuals who decide they want to make a positive difference to the world around them, and who are not afraid to act, the Conservation Council would never be able to affect the systemic change needed at the level of institutions and government. Your donations ensure we are able to be a strong voice for the many South Australians working to protect our natural and built environment and are able to continue our advocacy work on the major issues affecting this State.

If protecting our environmental future is something you are concerned about, you might wish to consider making a bequest to the Conservation Council.

Including the Conservation Council of SA in your Will

Making a Will means that you can decide how your legacy will be distributed. You should take care in making your Will that it is worded precisely, that it accurately reflects your wishes, and that it is a legally valid document. It is a good idea to consult with your solicitor in drawing up or amending you Will.

We strongly recommend that you discuss any bequests with your family or other beneficiaries so that they are aware of and understand your wishes.

You may choose to include the Conservation Council of South Australia in your Will for either an asset or specific amount of money, or by bequeathing the remainder or residue (or any proportion of the remainder) of your estate after you have made other specified bequests.

You may wish to use the following wording in your Will as a guide:

"I bequeath to the Conservation Council of South Australia Inc. (a specified sum), or (specified items), or (the residue of my estate) free of all duties, and the receipt of the Secretary or other authorised officer for the time being shall be a complete and sufficient discharge for the executor(s)".

All donations to the Conservation Council of South Australia Inc. are tax deductible under the Income Tax Assessment Act 1997.

Please let us know if you decide to include the Conservation Council in your Will. We would like to be able to personally thank you and see if there are ways that you can become more involved or better informed about the work of the Conservation Council.
