Congratulations all round as ancient Tennyson Dunes granted protection
The Tennyson Dunes - the last remaining remnant of a tertiary dune system on the Adelaide metropolitan coast - have been granted permanent legal protection after 20 years of community advocacy.
On Sunday, the Minister for the Environment, Ian Hunter, dedicated the Dunes as a coastal park, protected under the Crown Land Management Act. Conservation SA commend the dedication and efforts of the Tennyson Dunes Group for their twenty years of volunteer work.
“This is a true win for the environment and community. These ancient dunes have been cared for by passionate and hard working volunteers over the last two decades and now they have been granted the protection they deserve under SA state law,” said Conservation SA Chief Executive Craig Wilkins.
“We honour, admire and congratulate the Tennyson Dunes Group for all their wonderful work.
"We also congratulate Minister Ian Hunter for listening to the community and granting legal protection for this very special place," he said.
