North Terrace Tram: Do It Right, Once

The State Government should future-proof the new tram extension and build it now to turn in all directions along North Terrace.

"While we strongly welcome the Government's investment in extending the tram, we urge them to do it properly the first time," said Craig Wilkins, Chief Executive of Conservation SA, the state's peak environment body.

"Trams are a fantastic investment in city prosperity and reduce car dependence and pollution.

"They are also extremely popular with commuters.  As we have seen with the King William tram extension, as soon as it is built we'll be talking about how crowded it is.

"Any future government should be seriously looking at installing a city tram loop that will require a right hand turn from King William Street into North Terrace.

"We urge the State Government to think long term and invest in future-proofing transport infrastructure," he said.
