Submission on the South-west Marine Parks Network

Conservation Council SA's key recommendations to the Government in preparing its management plans for the South-west Marine Parks Network include:

  • Substantially increase the size and number of ‘sanctuary zones’ (IUCN II / National Park zones) across the Network,

  • Set a minimum threshold of 10% of each marine park as a ‘sanctuary zone’,

  • Making the continental shelf and its slopes are a high priority for sanctuary zone protection; and
  • Wherever possible, new or enlarged sanctuary zones should occur adjacent to the sanctuary zones of State marine parks.

Detail on the recommendations for specific marine parks adjacent to SA waters can be found in the submission.
